  1. Blog post #1 on Idealist Guide: Using the article and your own experiences, write a paragraph defining  nonprofits. What are 4 characteristics of nonprofit organizations? ALSO: Write one question that emerged for you in reading this article (this might be something you didn’t understand or something you want to learn more about).

  2. Nonprofits are programs that use the money they make to achieve their mission statement and/or goals, as opposed to other companies that use their money to distribute it to the share holders of the company itself. A nonprofit is filled with people who are striving to make a difference in the world, without the intent of profiting for their own benefit. Nonprofit organizations are selfless and strive to give more to others who cannot give for themselves. As a member of a nonprofit organization (YMCA) I have seen the impact of these nonprofit organizations and feel that they are a vital part of society and can really make a difference in changing the world we live in today.

4 characteristics I feel are part of a nonprofit organization are perseverance, selflessness, charity, and kindness.

I didn't understand how the article discussed the theory of "burning out" in our field of work. Mostly because I feel that if you are good with time management that you will be able to handle the stress and responsibility of the job field you are in

  1. Thanks for your post Bailey. I'm interested in the idea of selflessness that you write about here and on one level, I agree--many folks who decide to work in the nonprofit sector are invested in others and making the world better, but I also want to push back a little. I've seen lots of BIG OL EGOS in nonprofit work--I'm curious if you have too. Let's talk more about this in class! Best, V
