New Urban Art's constituents consist of students, mentors, and a full time staff that serves high school students and emerging artists in Providence, RI. They serve urban high school students, trained artist mentors, and emerging artists. '
Their long-term goal is that young people and artists mentors work together—as collaborators and peers—to develop creative practices which allow them to become more imaginative, and active, community members.
One zip code I chose to look up the demographic for was my own town, Tiverton, RI (02878), in which 43.7% of the working population is employed in executive, management, and professional occupations. The second most important occupational group in this neighborhood is sales and service jobs, from major sales accounts, to working in fast food restaurants, with 22.8% of the residents employed. Other residents here are employed in manufacturing and laborer occupations (18.7%), and 14.8% in clerical, assistant, and tech support occupations.
In the North Tiverton neighborhood in Tiverton, RI, residents most commonly identify their ethnicity or ancestry as Portuguese (49.2%). There are also a number of people of French ancestry (16.9%), and residents who report Irish roots (16.0%), and some of the residents are also of English ancestry (10.0%), along with some German ancestry residents (8.8%), among others.
You can tell that this neighborhood is mostly middle-class Portuguese/American families. Also, the cost of living is higher than expected in this town. Compared to the national average, it is 60% more expensive to live in North Tiverton than most parts of the U.S.
