snow day

  • -In my own words, HSLI brings communities together by giving educators and community leaders the tools they need to create a fulfilling summer learning program for youth.
-The problems that they address are that students lose about two months of of grade level equivalency while on summer vacation, and low income students lose about two months of loss in reading achievement during this time.
-Low income families with middle-school and high school aged students in RI are eligible for this program.
-The qualities that an organization needs to have in order to apply are professional development, sustainability, and success.
-The partnerships they support are summer programs in RI
-The main components that are required for the grant proposal are data and outcomes, collaboration, curriculum structure, professional development, sustainability, demonstrate success, and documentation.
-My take on the HSLI is that it is a good proposal and would truly benefit RI as a whole. The only thing I would change would be to offer programs during school vacations as well, because even a few weeks off can delay a child's learning habits. Overall, there is nothing in particular that i dislike about HSLI.
